Book Sale Block Party

Friends of the San Francisco Public Library

June 2023 & June 2024

I led the marketing efforts for the Book Sale Block Party, a literary extravaganza hosted by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library. I helped pioneer the event with incredible coworkers in 2023 at Friends of the Library and it quickly turned from an outdoor book sale to a full-on, free, community-based event. The festival featured over 10,000 books, comics, media, and vinyl that were all for sale and those funds helped support library programs in San Francisco. 

Our team curated a series of author talks that included SF-based and emerging authors along with activities like author talks, live DJ performances, and hands-on crafts. The event aimed to attract a diverse audience. A partnership with Thee Parkside, a local SF-historic, punk rock bar added a dynamic venue for author readings and refreshments and kindly let us use their space! Talk about a community event. 

One of the most notable parts of the night was when I got to interview former The Cure drummer, Lol Tolhurst and discuss his book, Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys. The experience was a fever dream, fangirling for many reasons some after listening to the Cure growing up in the backseat of the car when my dad dropped me off to school, to reading the book front to back in crunch time before the interview.

 

Getting to interview Lol Tolhurst, seeing my marketing efforts pay off from poster design to execution, to running paid ads on facebook and eventbrite, generating over 1,200 of new emails to add to our acquisition lists for fundraising, attracting over 4,000 people across the two years of the event, and attracting 24 new donors to our fundraising ecosystem, generations approximately $50,000 in revenue across 2023 and 2024.

Collaborated with local businesses and artists to enhance the event’s visibility and appeal. Fostered relationships with key partners like Thee Parkside and local artists, expanding the event’s reach.

Executed Successful Email Marketing Campaigns

Designed lead generation campaigns, adding 1,200 new contacts to our fundraising database. Crafted engaging email content that led to a 20% increase in event attendance from 2023 to 2024.
